Structured Art Time

Providing young children with art activities can stimulate the brain. Several ways that art is beneficial to young children are it helps with visual recognition, visual understanding, object recognition, and eye-hand coordination.  Lastly, art can help children learn how to express their feelings with or without words.

Creative Play

We sometimes neglect to mention an extremely basic yet powerful method of cognitive and emotional development, for children and adults alike: Play.

Fine Motor Skills

Fine motor skills involve the use of the smaller muscle of the hands, such as when doing up buttons, opening lunch boxes or using pencils or scissors. Fine motor skill efficiency significantly influences the quality of the task outcome as well as the speed of task performance. Efficient fine motor skills require a number of independent skills to work together to appropriately manipulate the object or perform the task.

Fine motor skills include:

Pencil skills (scribbling, coloring, drawing, writing),

Scissor’s skills (cutting),

Construction skills (lego blocks, play dough)
